Overview
foldfunc is a protein analysis tool. We collect the minimum data necessary to run the service. We do not sell your data, serve ads, or build profiles. This policy explains exactly what we collect, who sees it, and why.
What you submit
When you run an analysis, you provide:
- A protein sequence (amino acid string)
- An optional protein name
- Optional mutation positions
We do not require an account. We do not associate submissions with your identity unless you contact us directly.
Third-party processors
To deliver an analysis, your submitted data passes through external services. By using foldfunc, you acknowledge this routing:
- Structure prediction and mutation scoring services receive your protein sequence.
- An AI language model receives your sequence and protein name to generate a biological summary.
- A public structural biology database is queried to retrieve known protein structures.
- PubMed is queried with your protein name for literature context.
- Our hosting provider logs standard request metadata (timestamps, response codes, IP addresses).
If your sequences are confidential or proprietary, contact us before use. We do not control how third-party services handle data once it is transmitted to them.
Server logs
Our backend server records standard request logs (timestamp, endpoint, response status, approximate request size). Logs do not contain your sequence data. Logs are retained for up to 30 days for debugging purposes.
Cookies and tracking
We do not use tracking cookies, advertising pixels, or third-party analytics. Our hosting provider may set functional cookies for edge routing. No behavioural profiling occurs.
Data retention
Your raw protein sequence is never stored. We store a one-way SHA-256 hash of the sequence (which cannot be reversed to recover the original), along with the predicted structure (PDB), mutation scores, and AI interpretation in our prediction cache.
This cached data is retained indefinitely to make repeat analyses faster. Your protein name (if provided) is sent to PubMed as a search query but is not stored by us. We do not associate any cached result with your identity.
